Crawling

Posted on 8/21/2009 by Denise

How exciting!  We caught our little man’s first little movements on video!  That’s right, Judah just started crawling last week.  His first scoots were slow and deliberate.  We giggled at him as he made his way across the blanket spread out on the floor.  I even asked my mom and dad who were there at the time, “Can you even count that as crawling?”

Well, now there is no doubt he is crawling!  Those first “crawling” movements on Friday are a thing of the past, by Monday he was a pro!  Now I am chasing him all over the room trying to keep him on the pallet so he doesn’t smack his ‘noggin on the hardwood floor.  He’s had a couple of bangs, but nothing serious – no knots or bruises, just some short crying spells.  I guess it is all part of learning.

He has also discovered all the things he shouldn’t be getting in to!  Isn’t it funny how there is a room full of things to play with and yet they go straight for the one thing they aren’t supposed to touch?  In our case, it is the cord to the swing.  He wants to get his little paws on those cords so bad!  I spend the majority of the time redirecting him away from the cords and back to the toys.

Everyday I am amazed at how quickly he discovers something new, or learns to do something new.  It seems like everyday there is something funny that happens or a new discovery that is made.  I am so lucky that I get to spend so much time with him.  I will cherish these moments forever.

  • The labor process. As far as the classes go, I would only recommend it for people who have NO Knolwledge! I am a former L&D nurse and found it to be a waste of time and remedial. I would recommend buying a comprehensive book or getting one from your library. As a first time mom at 36 and diabetic (Type I), I had tight control and a normal labor and baby. No complications. (I had an insulin pump and monitored my blood sugars about every 2-4 hours). I had the epidural at 2cm. It did not stop my labor. (I also did not need pitocin). I had a 1st degree tear. As far as having the epidural, I had little discomfort, but had a fabulous anesthesiologist. He did not overload on the medication so I could push. They did not shut off the epidural. Nor should they if they know what they are doing. Good luck. Amen to St. Barnabas in Livingston NJ and Dr. Chervenak my OB and Dr. Fox my anethesiologist.

  • I am a first time mom. Just finished the 4mo vac's. I choose to only have the doctor give 2 vacs at a time. Spacing the next set by a week. This seems to be working for us. We have read quite a bit on this. No problems yet. Our baby girls tolerates it pretty well. She rarely cries. We do end up giving her a dose of infant tylenol. Other than that all is well.

  • I love Walmart, we buy all our groceries and whatever else we need on a weekly basis. We go as a family(all 7 of us) and we actually enjoy it! (most of the time) If the kids are good they sometimes get to pick out a knew toy together. If I remember I need something for the baby,"boom" we are right there and I don't have to go somewhere else to get that something it's at Walmart.I Love this store, we all do.Thanks, Stephy in CT

  • Dennise, The days of toys all over the floor and constantly watching a child have long past for me. My "baby" turned 23 this past week. When they are little it does seem endless and then as quickly as the faze appeared it disappears and is replaced with another that requires full attention. 18 years of every moment worrying and caring for them and then suddenly we are supposed to turn it off and let them spread their wings and fly. It is as I tell my children that are now grown Mom's do not come with off switches , would be nice. I still park my cart in the middle of a grocery isle so that little hands will not pull things off of the shelves and yet it has been probably close to at least 15 years since the youngest sat in a cart and did that! You are very wise to cherish and enjoy each moment for what it is worth ! They do grow up soooooo fast!
