Yuck! Judah is too young to dread going to the doctor. He has no idea where we’re going when I load him into his car seat and drive him to the doctor. However, I know exactly where we’re going and I absolutely love all the information we get when we go, like how much he’s gained, how much he’s grown, whether or not he is looking healthy and if he has good eating habits, etc. What I do not look forward to, however, is the shots.
We recently visited our pediatrician for round two of Judah’s booster shots when he went in for his four month check-up. I think it is harder on me than it is on him! I hate having to watch as his smiley face turns into a scream! There can’t be a worse feeling than when you watch the nurse prick your child with needles and your baby’s face fill with tears! You feel like a traitor!
While I know each mother must decide for herself if and which vaccinations are right for your child and when they should receive them, for all of us who have decided to vaccinate our children we share this dread! Luckily, it is over in a flash, and just like you were a traitor in the bat of an eye you are also the hero who snatches your baby up and holds him tight to comfort and kiss all those tears away.
