When Judah turned two weeks old we had a local freelance photographer come to the house and take some pictures so we could have announcements printed and to document his arrival. This turned out to be a wonderful thing because she came to the house to make the photos. Being a new mom, I appreciated not having to get ready to leave the house, get him ready, and hope to keep him happy while in a strange environment. Second, because she is a young photographer that freelances, she was MUCH cheaper than going to more “well-known” photographer or even one of those chains like at the mall! She also got lots of great photos (almost 500!) with us in our natural environment and gave us the CD so we can have as many prints made as we’d like. She did an awesome job! I would highly recommend that you look into using a photographer that just does it on the side – it costs less and we ended up with a much more personalized photo shoot.
However, we definitely had some “bumps” during the photo shoot. First, I was a nervous wreck because I didn’t know if we’d get a single picture of him happy! I still didn’t know him or his likes and dislike very well. He did cry – quite a bit, but I would nurse him and then we’d get a few good pictures! (Something else I’m not sure I’d be able to do in a chain picture place!) We took lots of pictures of him while he was naked – which I knew would be “dangerous!” He peed on EVERYTHING, the fur rug, the bean bag our photographer brought, her drape, the basket we put him in, and on the fur rug again…and again! It was hilarious!
Right at the close of our “photo shoot” we were taking a picture of our new family in front of our fireplace and I had a fleeting thought that he had been naked for a really long time and he would probably poop anytime now. Just as soon as the thought entered my mind, he pooped… all over me! Everyone was in stitches! I quickly changed and we finished up with a few more pictures.
Even though taking baby photos has its “dangers” we had a great time and ended up with lots of wonderful photos to document our new little boy at this tender young age! We’ll remember all the funny things that happened as we look back on these photos in years to come.
